Schools for Hypnosis: Premier Hypnotherapy Training at Michigan Hypnosis Institute

Your Pathway to Certified Hypnotherapy Expertise

Hey,

My name’s Michael, I'm a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist.

Welcome to the Michigan Hypnosis Institute, founded in January 2019 by myself, Michael D. Milson. As a hub for hypnotherapy training near you, our institute stands out as a beacon for those seeking to explore and master the art of hypnosis. Building upon a rich legacy of a previous hypnotherapy practice, Michigan Hypnosis Institute was created with a vision to extend our reach and empower more individuals through the transformative power of hypnotherapy.

Since the inception of Michigan Hypnosis Institute in 2019, our focus has extended beyond individual hypnotherapy sessions to encompass broader educational goals. While our primary services include aiding individuals with challenges like smoking cessation, weight loss, and confidence building, we're also exploring the realm of hypnotherapy training. This exploration is guided by my personal journey in the field and the desire to share the knowledge and skills that have been instrumental in my practice.

Our approach to training, while still in development, is inspired by the diverse experiences and learnings I've gained over the years. I looked at other hypnotherapy schools near me, offering hypnotherapy certification, and didn't like what I saw, so I wanted to do something different. From my initial foray into hypnosis to overcome personal challenges to the comprehensive education I received, these experiences shape the ethos of our institute. We aim to offer insights and introductory workshops that can serve as a stepping stone for those interested in the field of hypnotherapy and related practices.

[145 Ways Hypnotherapy Might Help You]

Kappasinian Hypnosis

Kappasinian Hypnosis, pioneered by Dr. John Kappas at the Hypnosis Motivation Institute (HMI), a licensed hypnotherapy school and the first nationally accredited college of hypnotherapy, is a holistic approach focusing on the mind-body connection. This technique emphasizes the role of suggestibility in behavior and therapy, tailoring hypnotherapy to individual suggestibility types. It integrates traditional hypnosis with modern psychology, making it effective for various issues like stress, anxiety, and habit control.

Clinical Hypnotherapy

Clinical Hypnotherapy applies therapeutic techniques in a hypnosis setting to address deeper psychological issues. Trained at institutes like HMI, UK Hypnosis Academy, and Jacquin Hypnosis Academy, Clinical Hypnotherapists use structured approaches to treat conditions such as phobias, trauma, and addiction. This method combines clinical understanding with hypnosis, offering a powerful tool for mental health and behavioral change.

Ericksonian Hypnosis

Ericksonian Hypnosis, named after Milton H. Erickson, is a client-centered approach that utilizes indirect suggestions and storytelling. This method, taught at HMI, is known for its conversational and permissive style, making it less authoritative and more about guiding the client to find their own solutions. It's particularly effective for individuals resistant to the more direct forms of suggestion.

Neo-Ericksonian Hypnosis

Neo-Ericksonian Hypnosis, as taught by the Mike Mandel Hypnosis Academy, builds upon traditional Ericksonian methods by incorporating modern psychology and NLP. This approach is more structured than classic Ericksonian hypnosis, yet maintains its flexibility and client-centered nature. It's effective in navigating complex psychological issues through metaphorical storytelling and indirect suggestion.

Conversational Hypnosis

Conversational Hypnosis, influenced by experts like Igor Ledochowski and David Snyder, focuses on inducing hypnosis through everyday conversation. This subtle technique allows practitioners to embed hypnotic suggestions in normal dialogue, making it ideal for situations where traditional hypnosis may not be appropriate. It's effective in subtly influencing attitudes and behaviors.

Rapport Building / Body Language

Rapport Building and Body Language, as taught by David Snyder and Vanessa Van Edwards, are essential skills in hypnotherapy for creating a trusting and comfortable environment. Understanding and mirroring body language, and using verbal and non-verbal cues effectively, are key to building a strong therapeutic alliance, crucial for successful hypnotherapy outcomes.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), with influences from experts like Richard Bandler, involves understanding and changing thought patterns and behaviors. NLP techniques, taught at HMI and other institutions, focus on the relationship between mind, language, and behavior. Practitioners use NLP to reframe thinking, enhance communication, and achieve specific life goals.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a form of psychological acupressure, combining tapping on specific meridian points with verbal affirmations. This technique, taught by experts like Susie Kappas and Karl Smith, helps reduce emotional distress, alleviate physical pain, and improve overall wellbeing. EFT is often used for anxiety, stress, and trauma.

Stage Hypnosis & Street Hypnosis

Stage & Street Hypnosis, as practiced by renowned hypnotists like Anthony Jacquin and Richard Barker, is an entertaining form of hypnosis performed in public or on stage. This modality focuses on rapid induction techniques and showcases the dramatic effects of hypnosis in a performance setting. It requires skill in rapid rapport building and audience engagement.

My Journey

Back when I first started pursuing Hypnotherapy as a career in 2014, I had no idea that this would become my future goal. I initially sought out hypnosis to assist with personal issues I was facing at that time, I had previously seen the benefits of hypnosis when I quit smoking in my late teens/early 20’s, so I was excited to delve deeper into what Hypnotherapy was all about and how it could help me in other areas.

Hypnosis Motivation Institute 55 Years of Excellence

Discovering the Hypnosis Motivation Institute was a pivotal moment in my journey. Their comprehensive approach to hypnotherapy education, embracing both traditional and innovative methods, resonated deeply with my aspirations. This experience wasn't just educational; it was transformational, sparking a profound shift in my career path. Moving away from my web development business, I embraced hypnotherapy wholeheartedly, driven by a newfound passion to aid others through this powerful therapeutic tool. This shift laid the foundation for what Michigan Hypnosis Institute would eventually offer – not only expert hypnotherapy services but also insights into the fascinating world of hypnotherapy, potentially paving the way for educational ventures in the future.

HMI is an amazing school with excellent teachers, they are a non-profit nationally accredited hypnosis training college and clinic of hypnotherapy (accredited by the U.S.D.E.), not only do they offer the best education, they assist people for free. The Kappasinian method of hypnosis and the various teachings of Dr. John G. Kappas, P.hD, the Theory of Mind and E & P, were combined with many other classes covering a wide range of topics.

Not only was I able to earn my Diploma in Hypnotherapy and the title of Master Hypnotist, but also a certificate in Handwriting Analysis, and I joined the American Hypnosis Association (AHA) allowing me to become a certified specialist in several areas after taking some of the many courses they offered. The AHA is closely tied to HMI and I have been a member since 2014 [Cert ID: #010529]. I'm also a certified member of the International Certification Board of Clinical Hypnotherapy (ICBCH).

a Change in Career Direction

Not long after starting school I had a complete shift in my career priorities, previously running a small web development company I decided it was time for a change and that I was going to make Hypnotherapy my future career path. So, later that year I opened Milson Hypnotherapy Services as a small side business, offering distance sessions via Skype video calls.

I still maintained my web business as I had one full-time client whom I didn’t want to let down, but I scaled it back and took on a day job elsewhere to keep the money flowing while I grew my new business.

Jump ahead a few years and it’s now the beginning of 2018. I decided to join the Hypnotherapists Union Local 472 (now closed) and officially become certified as a Hypnotherapist. Later that year I decided it was time to expand and re-brand. Closing Milson Hypnotherapy Services in December 2018 and opening Michigan Hypnosis Institute, LLC in January 2019.

Founding Michigan Hypnosis Institute, LLC

The foundation of Michigan Hypnosis Institute in January 2019 marked a pivotal moment in my professional journey, signifying not just the continuation of my hypnotherapy practice but the expansion into a multifaceted hub for personal growth and learning. While our core services currently focus on individual therapy sessions, the Institute is steadily evolving.

Our vision encompasses the development of a diverse range of programs, including the "I Used to Smoke"™ Stop Smoking Solution and the Virtual Skinny Jab™ Weight-Loss Solution. In addition, we are excited about the potential of introducing an EFT Course, hypnosis training and a comprehensive Diploma in Hypnotherapy Training Course, slated to commence in 2024 and beyond.

These programs reflect our dedication to extending the transformative power of hypnotherapy to a broader audience, whether through targeted solutions or more in-depth educational offerings.

In early 2019, Michigan Hypnosis Institute expanded its services to include in-person sessions at homes or offices and online sessions via Zoom, enhancing our accessibility. This expansion was a significant step in my commitment to helping as many people as possible through hypnotherapy. Then in 2020 everything changed and I pivoted everything to online only sessions and training.

Throughout my journey, I've continuously enriched my hypnotherapy expertise, training under or learning from esteemed professionals like David Snyder, Igor Ledochowski, Richard Barker, Sheila Granger, Sean Michael Andrews, Jason Linett, Karl Smith, Jerry Kein, Mike Mandel & Chris Thompson, Richard Nongard, Steve G. Jones, Dan Candell, Glenn Rottmann, and Wendi Friesen.

My experiences and insights have not only been shaped through this training but also through my role as a published author. Writing on hypnotherapy topics has allowed me to share my knowledge widely, further establishing my expertise in the field. Alongside being an instructor, ordained Dudeist Priest, Reiki Master, and IT professional, these facets of my career complement the comprehensive training I've received from esteemed professionals.

In 2020, I returned to HMI for an advanced program in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Mind-Body Psychology, graduating with honors and several awards. This commitment to ongoing education is integral to the quality of service at MHI.

Now, it's time to focus on you. I invite you to schedule a strategy call with me. Let’s discuss your challenges and goals, and together, we can develop a personalized plan using hypnosis to achieve your aspirations.
